Organizational Description

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (The Academy) is a world-class educational platform for girls which is aimed at nurturing a new generation of dynamic women leaders. This residential boarding school is situated in Meyerton, Gauteng Province with just over 300 students enrolled in Grades 8 -12. Grade 12. Students write the Independent Examination Board (I.E.B.) NSC Examination.

Job Purpose

  • To provide operational ICT leadership and ensure that Information and Communications Technology capabilities empower the
    realisation of the Academy’s strategic goals;
  • To identify, develop and execute innovative, leading-edge information management solutions and technical strategies to support the
    Academy’s goals;
  • To develop partnership/s with key internal customers and suppliers/services providers to support and manage the ICT estate of
    OWLAG;
  • Take responsibility for directing and coordinating the activities of outsourced services providers, ICT staff, vendors and others to
    achieve the ICT goals;
  • Take responsibility for compliance with stated ICT governance and best practices in service management;
  • Manage and provide operational support to the Academy’s management and staff;
  • Provide leadership to direct subordinates.

Minimum academic requirements & experience

  • A relevant tertiary IT/ ICT qualification;
  • A relevant IT/ ICT certification such as ITIL V3;
  • Foundation, CCNP/ CCNA / CCNE Certification or proven experience in VMWare and Red hat, Fortinet;
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the management of overall information technology operations;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in networking administration, installation and overall operations;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in computer hardware, cabling installation and support, wireless technology applications and
    interface;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Microsoft Windows software, including Server, Office and O365;
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in project management.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in budgeting and financial forecast management;
  • Demonstrated systems analysis proficiency;

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake extensive consultation, planning and collaborations with internal to ensure rigorous needs analysis, apt solution development and seamless service delivery;
  • Manage Service Desk to ensure the Academy’s internal stakeholders receive high levels of ICT Service, and issues are resolved timeously against set Service Level Agreements;
  • Act as the second line of escalation and support to the ICT Team; in the event of major and complex issues;
  • Ensure the security, availability, and performance of the Academy’s ICT services, including end user technologies, to reduce disruption in
    business continuity;
  • Engage with external IT partners to ensure continual service improvements through the development of contingency strategies to improve the sustainability of technology applications;
  • Ensure proactive monitoring and alerts management systems are in place for maximum system uptime and proactive resolution to issues;
  • Manage the development and execution of the Information Technology strategy and the Academy’s IT Road Map Architecture;
  • Planning and monitoring of the operational day-to-day information technology requirements of the Academy;
  • Liaise with departmental heads to identify operational needs, acquire resources and manage implementation to ensure effective and efficient use of the operational environment;
  • Oversee the development of future operational needs and strategies as an integral component of the institutional planning process;
  • Develop the Academy’s digitization roadmap;
  • Conduct Gap-Analysis and oversee policy development in alignment with strategy, other internal policies and ensure implementation and
    compliance;
  • Manage, review and update of the policies and procedures;
  • Forecast and build capacity and employ proven methodologies to support new and existing projects;
  • Assume accountability for timely and cost-effective end-to-end delivery of IT projects;
  • Ensure management of control systems in place for schedule, budget and risk factors, to ensure quality delivery of projects;
  • Develop / implement a communication plan and observe a change control process;
  • Forecast, plan and Compile annual budgets (Capex and Opex) monitor and report on expenditure vs targets;
  • Continually scrutinize solution development / recommendations with a view of waste elimination and realization of savings Provide
    stewardship over allocated resources;
  • Asset Management: Assume life-cycle Custodianship for fixed and moveable ICT assets of The Academy;
  • Procurement Management: Ensure that all Procurement within the unit is undertaken in accordance with Procurement Policy and related
    procedures, circulars;
  • Formulate Specifications, Develop Requests for Quotations, follows processes for quoting, approval and payment, in line with Finance
    policies and guidelines;
  • Advisory: Provide operational input and guidance into the technical investment process on evaluation, selection and maintenance of IT
    system Components;
  • Coach, mentor and supervise direct reports and ensure adherence to HR Policies;
  • Manage performance and development of individual staff members;
  • Manage and (or) escalate disputes or conflicts in accordance with procedure;
  • Ensure that The Academy‘s Information Technology landscape is safe and secure against Cyber threats;
  • Ensure on-going compliance with legislative and regulatory developments that impacts the ICT environment at The Academy;
  • Develop, revise and oversee general IT operations to ensure internal controls are in place to drive compliance with applicable regulations,
    including controls with third party service providers and contractors;
  • Develop reporting dashboards and provides reports on a regular basis to the Head of Operations;
  • Broadcast regular informational and educational, Newsflashes for continuous user education;
  • Develop, implement and monitor Loss control strategies and cost assignment to relevant cost centers;
  • Manage all Operational Risk the area and comply with provisions of OHS Policy;
  • Manage ICT related contracts, outsourced services and licenses throughout their lifecycle to ensure Supplier performance is in
    accordance with Service Level Standards / Obligations-escalate poor performance where required;
  • Review all new contracts to ensure alignment with negotiation outcomes, award conditions and specified technical / standard
    requirements;
  • Review Contracts periodically and make recommendations for variations, extensions or termination;
  • Renegotiate favourable contract terms.
