Organizational Description

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (The Academy) is a world-class educational platform for girls which is aimed at nurturing a new generation of dynamic women leaders. This residential boarding school is situated in Meyerton, Gauteng Province with just over 300 students enrolled in Grades 8 -12. Grade 12. Students write the Independent Examination Board (I.E.B.) NSC Examination.

Job Purpose

The main aim of the Remedial Therapist is to bridge the gap between where the learners currently function academically and where they should be. The role of the Remedial Therapist is to assist learners to overcome or cope with their learning difficulties by focusing on skills rather than content.

This is a part-time position and the Remedial Therapist will be required to render services at least three (3) afternoons during the week and/or on Saturday mornings for a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Minimum academic requirements & experience

  • A Diploma or Degree in Remedial Therapy.
  • Further training or qualification in working with children and/or youth.
  • At least 2-4 years’ post qualification experience as a Remedial Therapist providing learning support to high school learners.
  • Experience working with specific learning barriers which impact on academic functioning such as reading, written expression, ADHD, etc.
  • Experience working with individuals and small groups.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children.
  • At least 2 years’ teaching high school English will serve as an added advantage.
