"Hard Work Enriches"

Once again, we are excited to announce that OWLAG has achieved a 100% Pass and a 100% Bachelor’s Degree Pass rate. The Class of 2023, the O’Yazeed, will remember their Grade 12 year as one of challenge and triumph. The challenge was coping with the unknowns of a new world post COVID-19 and managing its subsequent effects on learning. Even as we speak about COVID, the world, and most definitely the country, has not fully understood and internalised the impact of COVID on learning, teaching and relationships in the current and coming generations. This cohort, in particular, stayed at OWLAG for one year (Grade 8) and the country went into lockdown the following year (2020). This means that part of their foundational knowledge and learning was interrupted, before they returned to campus full-time in Grade 11.

Their triumph was thus overcoming learning loss, re-learning how to reconnect and relate, and continuing to maintain high academic performance. Their success is a triumph, not just for them, but for their families who supported them throughout their journey. Their triumph is also for the OWLAG staff members who gave their all to ensure their success. At this point, I wish to salute all of the OWLAG Staff, in all of their different spaces (academics, wellness, cleaners, facilities, admin, library, security, kitchen, res moms, social workers, all of them), for walking the journey with the Class of 2023. Sometimes, it meant crawling, sometimes it meant sprinting, but stopping was never an option as they continued to support the girls. They displayed an energy, commitment and persistence to rise above the challenges they themselves faced. Siyabonga.

To the O’Yazeed, enjoy the fruits of your labour. You worked hard and fought hard for your success. Congratulations and Keep Moving. Do Not Stop. This is just the beginning of an amazing future that awaits you. Enjoy the journey.

Conclusion

Every one of our 61 students achieved entry to a degree course. Despite the fact that for yearsOWLAG has celebrated similar achievements, it is not one we take for granted – ever. We have come to realise that there is an undeniable truth underpinning the success of children – when
children know that they stand a chance, they begin thinking beyond their circumstances. Our founder’s goal was, and still is, for the school to help the girls reach their full potential and become leaders with integrity. It is heartening to see that we are still able to achieve our
dreams. We are particularly proud of the O’Yazeed, who have managed to excel despite the challenges posed by COVID and two years of online learning. These outstanding results are a true testament to the values of an OWLAG girl: purpose-driven, successful, resilient and selfleading
